Wednesday evening services vary from time to time. There are times in which we are committed to being students of God’s word. Diligently studying and seeking new answers, new discoveries, and most importantly drawing closer to the heart of God.
Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth. (2 Timothy 2:15)
Paul says it is the believer’s responsibility to become a workman approved by God who correctly handles the word of truth. God has called His children to a high level of commitment to Him, to living lives that are holy and pleasing to Him, and to be students of His sacred text. How would our Heavenly Father describe you as a student of His word? Would the word workman come to mind?
Sometimes on Wednesday evenings we commit this sacred hour to a time of prayer, praying over the needs of God’s church, seeking God’s direction for our lives and His church, desiring more of Him and His presence in our lives and inviting Him into our every day circumstances and situations asking Him to work according to His power and infinite wisdom.
Is any one of you in trouble? He should pray. Is anyone happy? Let him sing songs of praise. Is any one of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven. Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective. (James 5:13 -16)
Every service is an opportunity for us to be ministered to and to minister to others through prayer, with words of encouragement, or as we dialogue and learn from the Scriptures. We gather together not only to grow in our relationship with God, but also with one another.
Hebrews 10:23 – 25
Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
We can only spur (encourage) one another on in the faith as we have committed to gathering with the saints. Are you a Sunday only saint? Won’t you make the commitment to God and His church to be actively involved in encouraging the saints of God, and allowing them to encourage you as we journey together down this path way of hope and faith?
